A farmer with a small tunnels is more efficient, has a longer growing period. Minimal financial input is required to start.
The Tunnels project is designed to help small-scale farmers learn how to generate income by growing crops in a more sustainable way.
By providing protection from unpredictable weather and extending growing periods, small tunnels can help these farmers become more successful. With an investment of R100,000, a small tunnel can help a farmer increase their income from R5,000 per month to over R5,000 per week. The tunnels can also introduce higher value crops, which will contribute to the overall economic success of the farmers.
It’s important that the tunnels have access to water and ideally some form of irrigation to ensure their long-term viability
